Do you know about Heritage Buildings and Monuments?
Well I know about many famous monuments and I have also visited a few of them. I would like to tell all my readers about it.
- Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal is a famous monument, not only in India but also throughout the world. It is considered as one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It is situated on the banks of Rivers Yamuna in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. It was built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, in the memory of his loving wife Mumtaz Mahal. It is made of white marble, carvings and semi-precious stones.
- Qutub Minar
Qutub-ud-Din Aibak of the slave Dynasty laid the foundation of the Qutub Minar to give calls for prayer. The magnificent tower stands in the country’s capital, Delhi. Qutub Minar is the tallest brick minaret in the world at the height of 72.5m. There are 379 stairs inside the tower of Qutub Minar, lead to the top.
- Red Fort
Red Fort, also known as Lal Qila, is located on the banks of River Yamuna in Delhi. It was also built by Emperor Shah Jahan. The Red Fort derives its name from its massive red sandstone walls. It served as the main residence for the Mughal emperors. Every year on Independence day (15th August), the prime minister delivers a speech from the Red Fort.
- Gateway of India
The Gateway Of India was built to honour the visit of British King George V and Queen Mary to India. It has a large arch and is built in yellow basalt and insoluble concrete. The archway is 26 metres high and join with four turrets (small tower on top of large tower) and has intricate carvings.
- Ajanta Ellora Caves
Ajanta Ellora Caves are located in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. Ajanta comprises of magnificent caves portraying beautiful carvings which depict the life of Gautam Buddha. There are 34 monasteries and temples in Ellora. The Kailasa Temple in Ellora Caves, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is the largest monolithic (formed of a single large block of stone) temple in the world.
- Victoria Memorial
Victoria Memorial was built to honour Queen Victoria’s 25-year reign (rule) in India. It is made of white marble and located in the city of Kolkata. At the entrance of the memorial there is a bronze statue of Queen Victoria seated on a bronze throne. A black bronze angle known as the Angle of Victory is placed at the top of its dome. The memorial houses a remarkable collection of paintings, artefacts, weapons, textiles, coins and stamps. It also maintains a few possession of the queen like her writing desk, chair and scrapbooks.
- Konark Sun Temple
It is located in the small town of Konark in the districts of Puri, Odisha. The entire temple is in the form of Surya that is drawn by seven horses. The main attraction of the chariot of the temple is its twelve pairs of wheels located at base of the temple. These wheels are not ordinary wheels. The spokes of the wheel create a sundial. One can precisely calculate the time by just looking at the shadow cast by these spokes.
